Right to Inspect Public Records

By law, under the Inspection of Public Records Act, every person has the right to inspect public records of Taos County unless otherwise protected by law.

Please review the comprehensive Inspection of Public Records Compliance Guide publication if you have any questions regarding IPRA requirements or its application.

Taos County has implemented a specific process for submitting requests for records online through the computer program NextRequest. This helps us standardize intake, ensure requests are submitted in writing, and facilitate timely processing of all requests. A person desiring to inspect public records may submit a request to the IPRA Records Custodian orally or in writing. However, the procedures and penalties prescribed by the Act apply only to written requests.

Submission of written or oral requests:

Requests to inspect public records should be submitted to the Records Custodian, Chief Deputy Clerk, Anna Martinez 105 Albright St, Suite D, Taos, New Mexico, 87571, telephone (575) 737-6380, facsimile (575) 737-6390, email: anna.martinez@taoscounty.org.

The request must describe the records sought in sufficient detail to enable the records custodian to identify and locate the requested records.  There is no requirement to create a record that does not exist at the time of the request.

If you have any issues please call (575) 737-6380 or email: anna.martinez@taoscounty.org.
