JOB TITLE: Teen Court Assistant - Temporary

ENTRY LEVEL: $12.07 per hour

CLASSIFICATION: Temporary/Grant Funded/(FLSA)

DEFINITION: Performs a variety of routine duties as needed to assist or expedite the delivery of departmental programs or complete special projects.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

A. Graduation from high school;

AND

B. Two (2) years of experience in performing above or related duties;

OR

C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of basic mathematics; interpersonal communication skills; basic public relations; county DWI/Teen programs; presentation methods and processes; presentation and audiovisual equipment, basic computer operations.

Some skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with administrators, managers, youth and co-workers; the operation of PC Computer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, telephone.

Ability to perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time; perform minor equipment maintenance and repair; follow written and verbal instructions; read and understand prints and plans; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and supervisors.

 

3. Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid New Mexico Drivers License.

May be required to communicate orally and in writing in the Spanish language.

Must be able to comply with applicable county and departmental policies and safety standards.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of routine duties as needed to assist or expedite the delivery of departmental programs or complete special projects.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Teen Court Coordinator.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May provide general supervision to youth or students participating on special projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinates youth work teams on “Teen Court” projects; provides training to youth as needed to develop self-help work skills and assist with the completion of assigned work projects; assists community development staff with DWI program activities and processes.

Attends various school events or assemblies and makes presentations related to Teen and DWI programs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting.  Aspects of the work require talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist.  Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and some guided problem solving.
