Taos County has been awarded grant funding for a summer internship program for youth ages 16-18 interested in exposure to a variety of professions from diverse employers throughout Taos County. The 6-week internships will begin on July 6, 2021.
To qualify, interns must be 16-18 years old and residents of Taos County. The program will be open to any youth, including spring-summer 2021 high school graduates. Interns will be paid $10.80 an hour, be employed part-time, and receive experiences that expand youth application of academic, technical and employability skills in a work setting.
Interns will gain valuable knowledge and experience working with government agencies and local businesses to assist them in career exploration and setting goals for their future education and career choices. Connecting our youth with local public and private entities encourages highly motivated future members of our workforce to find careers within our local communities. With this program we are hopeful that together we can help demonstrate to our youth the benefits of providing quality service and investing in our community.
In addition, Taos County is currently seeking to hire 4 Intern Coordinator positions. The Intern Coordinators will collaborate with County and partner staff in areas of work, participate in training and meetings scheduled by the County and PED (Public Education Department); monitor and manage internship placements, keep track of hours, conduct site-visits; maintain required documentation; collaborate with mentors; etc. All interested parties must submit a letter of interest and Taos County application no later than June 16, 2021.
