APPLICATION/PERMIT FOR CUTTING OR EXCAVATION OF PUBLIC ROADS, PUBLIC ALLEYS, OR PUBLIC PLACES

  1. This Application/Permit covers any excavation to be done on any public road, public alley or public place of the County of Taos.

    The Applicant/Permit shall be responsible to any and all damage that may occur because of the cutting or excavation of any public road, public alley, or public place. The excavation site will be protected by signs, barricades, and lights as required by Part VI of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways." If it becomes apparent that traffic is to be re-routed the applicant/permittee, as to time and place of excavation and detour plan for routing traffic.

    All applications shall include a map showing the exact location of the public road, public alley, or public place which is to be cut or excavated.

    Forty-eight hours prior to beginning excavation, the applicant/permitee shall call for utility locates.

    Applicant/permittee shall be familiar with Taos County Ordinance No. 2013-4.

    After completion of the excavation all all work to be done in relation to the excavation, the excavation shall be back-filled with a well-graded material to the previous finish grade. Compaction test results shall be turned into the Department of Public Works upon inspection of the project. Permanent resurfacing shall be done by a qualified/licensed contractor that is approved by the Department of Public Works.

    Applicant/Permitee shall pay a permit fee of $5.00 and an inspection fee of $25.00 if the excavation site is within a five (5) mile radius of the Taos County Administrative Offices. If the excavation site is more than (5) miles from the Taos County Administrative Offices, the inspection fee will be $55.00. In addition to the permit fee and the inspection fee, a cash deposit, which is to be $1,000.00 or greater depending upon the value of the project, will be required for each excavation. The deposit no way relieves the applicant/permittee from the responsibility of paying for and indemnifying the County of Taos against any claims for damage to any person or any property of another because of the excavation.

    It is the responsibility of the applicant/permittee to request the final inspection so that any cash deposit can be released.
